Get an introduction to the country's political environment on a guided tour of Parliament of Finland, housed in a modern neoclassical building. As you approach, you'll immediately notice the 14 simplified columns that dominate the cubical structure made of red granite and featuring Corinthian capitals. Inside the building, the five floors contain governmental offices that serve a wide range of purposes, plus rooms for cafeterias, galleries, and media spaces. Depending on the day of your visit, you can take a guided tour of the building or watch parliament in session. Check the website for information regarding available tours. • The Parliament building stands in an area of the city which was appreciated. Modern and green. With avenues and places of relaxation and walks. This building is a typical opera "Monumentality" that is linked to classicism and neoclassicism. So for someone like me who is very interested in the urban architecture is a place to visit.

  • Arrived at the train station, took place at the monument to Mannerheim. From this side of the houses of Parliament is well visible. It is located on Mannerheim Avenue-the Imperial Commander and President of Finland. Under the prospectus came out to the building-majestic and with lots of stairs. In front of the sculpture again, Presidents of Finland. Still go working, apparently, repair continues inside. Compare the numbers: in the Finnish Parliament 200 deputies out of a population of more than 5.5 million people, Estonia 101 mp at just over 1 million population? Building took place in a circle, and it's not easy-granite mountains everywhere. By the evening of the legs are buzzing, such trips have an impact, remember all the steps and podjomy.

  • This is a pretty solid looking building, sufficiently imposing to house the national parliament of Finland. A bit of a walk from the centre but still easily reachable on foot. I visited on a Sunday af...  more »

  • Must see I suppose. Not that there is much to see.
  • Located next to one of the main avenues. Stunning building.
  • At least the interiors are great.
  • Not bad Parliament House 🏡
  • Been there in the past and it was amazing. Too bad the construction is taking forever

Where to stay in Helsinki

Set yourself up with easy access to many of Helsinki's most popular tourist sites by staying in the city's bustling and modern center. You'll find that the area is packed full of shops, restaurants, and bars, plus it's conveniently close to both the city's main train station and energetic waterfront. Though there's certainly a range of options when it comes to big-name hotel chains and upscale accommodation, prices are generally higher throughout most of the center, so consider staying at a hostel to cut down on costs. Hostels typically offer a solid location in or near the city center at a fraction of the cost of a big chain.
