Where to stay in Helsinki

Set yourself up with easy access to many of Helsinki's most popular tourist sites by staying in the city's bustling and modern center. You'll find that the area is packed full of shops, restaurants, and bars, plus it's conveniently close to both the city's main train station and energetic waterfront. Though there's certainly a range of options when it comes to big-name hotel chains and upscale accommodation, prices are generally higher throughout most of the center, so consider staying at a hostel to cut down on costs. Hostels typically offer a solid location in or near the city center at a fraction of the cost of a big chain.

  • Trekked here on a gloomy, rainy day during an 8-hour layover in Helsinki. I was on a mission to find 'salmon soup' as recommended by a few books and websites as things to do in Helsinki. Turns out it ...  more »

  • Would be nice if there was a chair shop, but there wasn't, so be prepared to walk around food. Good range of foods, unsure of quality/source. Mari's Smoothie and Café was busy/pleasant. Nice people, but need an electrician, or not to use too many appliances.
  • Beautiful building, awesome merchants, great location. But. Too small, packed with loitering locals and tourists. Quality products with Finnish prices. Best products are food.
  • Great place for a food lover. So much to see and taste. Plenty of places to sit and to get warm or to chill depending on the weather. So much choice! The only constraint is the size of your wallet.
  • Small place but has a nice vibe to it. Excellent little cafes and local shops. Great place to make a quick visit to while in Helsinki.
  • Interesting place to visit with many different stalls, mostly fresh food. At the central bar a group of lunch-time drinkers were singing local songs in harmony.
