Mannerheim Museum, Helsinki
(4.5/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
Learn about the life of a military hero and statesman at Mannerheim Museum, once the home of its namesake. Poised on a hill above an upscale residential neighborhood, the museum displays the artifacts of Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, whose precarious childhood led to an interesting life in the military fighting for Russia and later against Russia. His education by experience is reflected in the many objects brought back from distant places as well as the broad range of subject matter represented in his library. The house is in its original state, with furniture and decor from Mannerheim's own collection, while the exhibits display medals and honors he earned. You can also view his extensive book collection and family portraits. Notice Mannerheim's uncomfortable-looking bed, where he kept strict sleeping rituals. • In the so-called Boman Villa (named after the first owner) at one time lived a distinguished commander of the Russian army, Mannerheim, Carl. He himself designed the interiors of the House, personally identified the colors of rooms and location of furniture. We got on a tour in the Russian language. It was interesting. On the walls of the House-portraits of the ancestors of the Commander, there is also a collection of orders and medals, many hunting trophies. Attracts the attention of a large library.

  • This quite confidential Museum can be visited only with a guide, but it allows to discover the House remained in the State of the Marshal who was a pillar of the history of Finland. The guide is passionate and his presentation tends to the hagiography of Mannerheim (whose complex personality deserves maybe a little more). The House also contains beautiful pieces of Asian art. Anyway, worth the visit and it is very informative.

  • This house is exciting Finnish history, the home of a major person in Finland (and partly also Russian history). Very interesting place and good guides.

  • Fascinating museum. Absolutely bizarre character who hoarded a lot of items from his travels across the east. House is much as he left it in the fifties. Was pleased to get an English speaking guide (although I didn't understand a lot of what he said) but the experience was a little short at €10 for one hour. Highly recommend a visit though.
  • A very interesting Museum, rich in exhibits and information tour held in Russian at no extra charge, just for tickets. Recommend to visit all people interested in history.
