Since it was established in 1889, Korkeasaaren Elaintarha has attracted tourists and animal lovers for more than a century. The zoo's rocky island location attracts as much awe as the animals here; in fact, the island was a national park and used for fishing in 1569 until the establishment of the zoo in the 19th century. Discover this quiet spot removed from the city center where you can view over 150 animal species and 1,000 types of plants. Walk through the site's popular cat valley and get to know the exotic creatures at one of Europe's oldest zoos. • I really don't recommend to visit this zoo in the winter and time of pandemic. I paid 12€ for visiting 5 outside animals. Everything inside is closed, even you can have a mask and you are vaccinated.....  more

  • Love this place!! The fact that it's on an island is pretty awesome. Selection of animals is wonderful -- especially their big cats. Tons of space for families and children to run around and enjoy.
  • The Korkeasaari Zoo is a nice place to visit with family and friends. It has won several awards and distinctions for its valuable work in protecting endangered species. There is plenty of space and several excellent picnic spots. The Zoo is rather small in comparison to many other zoos in Europe, it still manages to give kids and adults alike great experiences and memories. The Zoo is located on an island that can be easily accessed by public transport (bus) or by ferry from Kauppatori.
  • Compact, well organized, nice. Additionally to animals, lots of playgrounds. Walk to the zoo is about 600 m, so with small kids a trolley is useful. I would recommend coming early to avoid parking issues - the lot fills up fast.
  • It's a nice zoo and the animals seem to be treated in a proper way. Compared to German Zoos it just feels a bit expensive for its size. Going here in a winter like weather also made it relatively relaxing with not too many people around, at the cost of summer animals not being available.
  • Very nice place, small enough to walk in an hour, but one can stay quite long. Many kids playgrounds, beautiful views on Helsinki. Animals are slightly hiding, so you will see max 50% of them.
