Helsinki Zoo, Helsinki

3.8
#1 of 10 in Zoos & Aquariums in Finland
Since it was established in 1889, Helsinki Zoo has attracted tourists and animal lovers for more than a century. The zoo's rocky island location attracts as much awe as the animals here; in fact, the island was a national park and used for fishing in 1569 until the establishment of the zoo in the 19th century. Discover this quiet spot removed from the city center where you can view over 150 animal species and 1,000 types of plants. Walk through the site's popular cat valley and get to know the exotic creatures at one of Europe's oldest zoos. A visit to Helsinki Zoo represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Helsinki family vacation planner to plot your vacation.

Very good day out. Took short boat trip to island. Took a picnic lunch. But bought drinks and ice cream in various places. Plenty of animals to see. Can spend a full day there and leisurely go round. ...  more »

The Finnish standards a great Zoo. See viihdyttiin's wife and the girl was, and with the 4 years. The Tigers were active when they were thrown to the ice cubes in the water, where they are playing. The weather favored. nimim. Tenerife and Budapestinkin gardens vierraileena not Korkeasaari left unmoved.

I am not a fan of zoos, but this zoo on Korkeasaari island in Helsinki conquered my heart. It is located on the rocky island, so the track flock up and down, and large open-air cages for animals are on a relief surface. We visited the island during the summer, and freely walked Peacock (Aviary was opened), goose nest in the most unexpected places (everywhere decals "respect the nest"). The enclosures were not only extensive and embossed, with a large vegetation for animal comfort, but also convenient for people-their separated transparent (glass?) walls, old cages for bears were empty and used as amusement for children feel bear locked up. The Zoo is not chasing numbers of animals, and is involved in the preservation and augmentation of the species and the quality of their lives (in the Central enclosure lived deer, which were going to produce at will), in a separate House to freely fly Gaggle small birds and people like turuhtanov would be entered for them and could watch them almost without barriers. He also very quality is arranged to visit him with children there are playgrounds, places for rest near the zoo animals and apart from them, a covered area for adoption brought with them food and toilets etc. fans of architecture on the island is cute mesh Pavilion (modern wooden architecture), which offers a beautiful view of the city.

This was the best zoo I have ever visited in my life. It is on its own entire island which is covered in trees and beautiful greenery. The zoo has lots of interesting animals with information about them in Finnish, Swedish, Russian and English. When you are not near any enclosures the paths are just like any other tarmac path surrounded by trees which is really nice when exploring the zoo. One of the nicest things about the zoo is that there aren't huge fences or walls around the edge and you can get some really great views of Helsinki and the surrounding islands from there. The only downside was that you had to pay for the toilets.

Fun times and lots of animals to see. Go before noon if you want to see the big cats. They feed them then they go to sleep. Boat ride is short and leaves every 20 mins or so in the summer.

This place is great for both kids and adults. The place is an island full of animals, how can you not love that. Also the island has different sections, for cats, monkeys, birds, and more. Which makes you explore the place more...

Where to stay in Helsinki

Set yourself up with easy access to many of Helsinki's most popular tourist sites by staying in the city's bustling and modern center. You'll find that the area is packed full of shops, restaurants, and bars, plus it's conveniently close to both the city's main train station and energetic waterfront. Though there's certainly a range of options when it comes to big-name hotel chains and upscale accommodation, prices are generally higher throughout most of the center, so consider staying at a hostel to cut down on costs. Hostels typically offer a solid location in or near the city center at a fraction of the cost of a big chain.
