Visit Helsinki City Museum to learn about the city's history, culture, and cherished local spots. Several centuries ago, this city was a quiet village with wooden houses; at the museum you'll learn how it transformed into a European metropolis. A plethora of photographs and stories about famous residents tell the story. You'll discover what the traditional food is like and view installations and artifacts from important events. At the museum shop, purchase artistic scarves, posters, and books, among other souvenirs. Check out the theater that plays historical Finnish movies. Entrance to the museum is free of charge. • Helsinki City Museum you can go free. Gathered into a large number of articles on the history and culture of the city. It is interesting, especially to see the photos of the old quarters of the way they were in the nineteenth century.

  • Very quickly see something of the history of the city, and for the rest a lot onnodigs. I think is especially focused on the young people of the city of Helsinki itself. Good toilets and: admission is free.

  • Must visit place in Helsinki. Free entrance. Exhibition features different parts of city's history coupled with VR experience, real photo archive and many other installations
  • This is a brilliant museum to take kids, loads of hands-on and dress-up stuff and it's completely free. If you're in Helsinki with kids and it's miserable weather, take them here. There's a 60s/70s style flat which nostalgiacs will love.
  • Entertaining, with a lot of interactivity (Virtual Reality, things you can sit on or play with, etc.)
  • It is FREE of charge and it is one of the best museums I have been in Helsinki, especially when you are with children
  • Super fun. Interesting and nice chilling area

Where to stay in Helsinki

Set yourself up with easy access to many of Helsinki's most popular tourist sites by staying in the city's bustling and modern center. You'll find that the area is packed full of shops, restaurants, and bars, plus it's conveniently close to both the city's main train station and energetic waterfront. Though there's certainly a range of options when it comes to big-name hotel chains and upscale accommodation, prices are generally higher throughout most of the center, so consider staying at a hostel to cut down on costs. Hostels typically offer a solid location in or near the city center at a fraction of the cost of a big chain.
