Didrichsen Art Museum, Helsinki

4.5
#15 of 48 in Museums in Helsinki
Art, architecture, and nature come together at Didrichsen Art Museum, home to "everything beautiful," as the founders stated upon its opening in 1965. Designed in the Modernist style by architect Viljo Revell, the museum buildings follow the contours of the landscape and sit surrounded by verdant trees. Outside, you can enjoy the sculpture park, filled with works by Henry Moore, Mario Negri, and Bernard Meadows. Inside, discover changing exhibitions of modern and contemporary Finnish and international art as well as cultural-historic exhibitions. The museum also contains some pre-Columbian art from Central and South America. • The Didrichsen Art Museum is a unique combination of an art museum and a private home by the seaside, on Kuusisaari island in Helsinki. Nice retrospective exhibition of fashion designer Jukka Rintalas...  more »
  • A great place and location in the summer. Tännehän can also be reached by water bus on the Helsinki market square during the summer season. Impressive exhibits including Reidar Särestöniemi and Munch were an absolute must. Next week Jukka Rintalaa is supposed to visit. Nice and knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend.

  • Many places are closed shops of the city of Helsinki is the day of the summer solstice Festival, where to go, thinking it tourist museum has opened on the day of the summer solstice Festival list, go to the Museum of fine arts here. You can go by boat from square market seems restricted on certain days, but could enjoy the process. The museum itself is small, but room was beautiful, very quiet.

  • A small and cozy art museum a little distance from the center of Helsinki. While I wouldn't put it on the must-visit list for Helsinki, I certainly enjoyed my visit. The dock at the back of the museum was nice as well.
  • Really lovely place to visit, refreshing mind and soul
  • Excellent little museum with a jaw dropping view of the sea. It hosts regularly painter works that are quite unique.
  • Has some interesting Henry Moore statues
  • One of my favourite art museums; building itself is something to see :).

Where to stay in Helsinki

Set yourself up with easy access to many of Helsinki's most popular tourist sites by staying in the city's bustling and modern center. You'll find that the area is packed full of shops, restaurants, and bars, plus it's conveniently close to both the city's main train station and energetic waterfront. Though there's certainly a range of options when it comes to big-name hotel chains and upscale accommodation, prices are generally higher throughout most of the center, so consider staying at a hostel to cut down on costs. Hostels typically offer a solid location in or near the city center at a fraction of the cost of a big chain.
