Where to stay in Helsinki

Set yourself up with easy access to many of Helsinki's most popular tourist sites by staying in the city's bustling and modern center. You'll find that the area is packed full of shops, restaurants, and bars, plus it's conveniently close to both the city's main train station and energetic waterfront. Though there's certainly a range of options when it comes to big-name hotel chains and upscale accommodation, prices are generally higher throughout most of the center, so consider staying at a hostel to cut down on costs. Hostels typically offer a solid location in or near the city center at a fraction of the cost of a big chain.

  • Definitely changed after being sold off from the Stockmann empire. I liked it more in 2015 when there was a wider array of books available in English. Not much reason for me to go there anymore without the fantastic paper supply level but the cafe upstairs is still nice.
  • This super-super bookstore and the best in the circle from Riga to Helsinki!! So many good reading possibilities. Of course the best choice is in Finnish but you can find good books in Swedish, English etc. Lots of beautiful gifts. It is nice to land on one of it's sofas and just flip through books with gorgeous pictures from the best photographers of Finland.
  • Loistava valikoima. If in Finland and want to find the best books. This is excellent choice.
  • It was better some years ago. The choice of artbooks were better. Now, like every bookstore, they have more souvenirs than good books.
  • Scientific books -section gone from excellent to nothing in 20 years
