Suva

3.6
History Museums · Nature & Parks · Shopping Malls
Situated on a verdant, hilly peninsula, Suva is the second-largest city in the South Pacific and has been the capital of Fiji since 1882. Victoria Parade, the city's main strip, occupies a rare band of flat land along the western edge of the peninsula, home to many restaurants, shops, clubs, and a bustling market. From Victoria Parade the city sprawls back onto the mainland, a patchwork of cultural and architectural influences where Colonial-era buildings sit alongside modern complexes. Pacific Islanders of all varieties flavor the mix, alongside a large Indo-Fijian community, a cosmopolitan student population, and an increasing amount of ex-pats, mostly Aussies and Kiwis. The cuisines here reflect the multiculturism, with Indo-Fijian and Chinese the most prevalent. At night young people flock downtown to the trendiest bars and nightclubs in the country. Take a peek at our custom trip planner: Suva and its charms laid bare and easily scheduled.

Where to stay in Suva

By and large, accommodations in Suva cluster in the vicinity of its main strip, Victoria Parade. Here you have a solid choice of comfortable hotels, mostly in the mid-to-high range, with the most lavish options located on the Parade itself and backing onto the waterfront. For slightly more affordable prices, look along Robertson Road, a ten-minute walk north of Victoria Parade.
