Sokehs Rock, Pohnpei
Categories: Geologic Formations, Nature & Parks
A rock formation peering over its namesake peninsula, Sokehs Rock remains one of Micronesia's landmark geographic features and serves as a major challenge for adventurous hikers. Allegedly created by a magician ages ago, the rock offers sweeping views of a lagoon and northern islands. As you navigate your way up a well-defined trail, look for abandoned buildings and old cannons dating back to World War II. Persistent bird watchers often report spotting the short-eared owl, a shy and threatened species. Don proper shoes for this demanding hike, and bring some bug repellent.
