Church
Considered one of the most striking buildings in the whole country, Christianskirkjan represents both a modern architectural achievement and a favorite religious site for the worshipers. The idea behind the construction was to create a landmark that would reflect the culture and history of the country. As a result, it was built out of natural basalt and wood, and topped with the traditional sod roof typical for Scandinavian buildings. Inside, you'll see a Faroese boat hanging from the ceiling, a celebrated altarpiece dating from 1901, a rose window designed by Ulrikke Marseen, and a number of other decorations and icons of carved wood. With our international travel planner, Bordhoy attractions like Christianskirkjan can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • The church itself was standard. There is a boat hanging in the roof! In the basement there are some art works in wood which are really cool.  more »
  • More interesting if you see the timber mosaic Stations of the Cross downstairs. We were lucky to find an English-speaking bus driver to talk to us, but the mosaics are self-evident.  more »
