A center of history and culture in the capital, National Museum of Ethiopia charts not just Ethiopia's, but humankind's ancient legacy. Established in 1958 from the country's archaeology institution, the museum now sprawls across three floors, presenting many of the nation's artistic collection, alongside ancient relics of some of the first known-hominids and ethnological artifacts from across the centuries. Don't miss the main exhibit, "Lucy", showcasing casts of the skeleton of a 3.2 million-year-old female hominid discovered in the 1970s to worldwide acclaim. English-speaking guides are available. • Museums in Addis Ababa could all do with work so the building is a little shabby but don't let this dissuade you from entering. The museum has an interesting display of early human existence...

  • A place to see in Addis Ababa. The National Museum of Ethiopia hosts the countries immense historical, cultural and Flora & Fauna resources. All the UNESCO registered heritage sites and many morr attractions the country is blessed with are sampled here. For students, teachers, researchers and tourists this museum is a perfect place to visit.
  • I had a chance to see it from entrancing till my last steps to leave the museum, I was bombarded with the Royal Dresses, the artifacts, the cultural instruments, the stools... I took my daughter when she was 3, so I'd show her what Ethiopian history is, but in middle our tour I completely forgot to tell her anything as I too was amazed, mesmerized and joyed with what I was seeing. I must visit again and give y'all pictures. Till then ✌️
  • It could be so much better if it had more funding. There are some very interesting pieces. It seems they are more focused on ancient archeology than Ethiopian history and I personally believe there is so much more Ethiopian history that could be shared.
  • It has a lot of history of the civilization. A route path should be created on the floors. More guides should be employed to explain the events of the past and how it effects the present. Lighting and overall look to be improved
  • Visit this place if you are interested in history and some 40 min time. Ground floor has Lucy’s bones and fossils of animals and humans.
