Lahemaa rahvuspark, Vihula
(4.9/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
Home to thick forests, bogs, and long stretches of coastal landscape, Lahemaa rahvuspark represents the largest of its kind in the country. Originally founded in 1971 as the Soviet Union's first national park, the reserve historically was an important fishing zone. Many boardwalks here allow you to explore the more than 72,520 hectares (179,201 acres) of forest and marine foliage, including areas of cliffs and rocky shorelines. Watch for some of the area's buildings from its military past, as well as baroque civilian country manors. You may even spot a few animal residents, including lynx, bears, and wolves. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Laane-Viru County holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Lahemaa rahvuspark and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This beautiful National Park includes three languages (peninsula) which protrude into the Baltic so quite articulate. They are very rugged with many bays and coves. The Baltic in this area is more reminiscent of a Lake (if is calm of course) and as vegetation like water color (often not inviting). There are some small villages and sometimes very gracious with their wooden houses scattered in the Woods. Many eratici boulders dotting the coasts. Places where the only attraction is the nature and a different look on a very distant and different from ours. If you have a bit more time I recommend definitely

  • A trip to the Park worth anyway. The Moor is the absolute highlight of the Park. But also the coast in Käsmu pays off.

  • In Lahemaa National Park, are in addition to the wilderness and beaches, small villages and mansions. Sea beaches around the many points are usually Rocky and it is permitted to use a spinning rod, to catch salmon and sea trout off the rocky coast. Wild animals such as bear-Moose-wild boar and many other kinds of animals are found in the forests. While ornithologists are happy to be in Lahemaa! There are also campsites with restrooms and finished carved wood, in some places! Nice National Park!

  • If you're visiting Tallinn and fancy a trip out of town, this is easily a one day trip. Rent a car and go here in summer or winter and enjoy hiking in the striking forests and marshes. Beavers to lynx and moose are plenty here.
  • National Park. Nice forrest en Manor Houses to visit. Nice vieuw on the sea shore.
  • Really beautiful area, massive too. Plenty of hiking trails, picnic spots and conservation areas. Along the coast there are some lovely quiet beaches, dome have basic facilities, others have snack bars or shops. RMK do a wonderful job of keeping the place tidy and pleasant. Camping is generally free (basic) and fires are allowed in designated areas. Be sure to pick up a map and consult guides before starting your adventure. Be sensible, and remember to take any litter away with you.
  • Big National park with many different paths. Signs will guide you throughout the whole area and give information about the nature.
  • One of the best kept secrets of Estonia with the special "Viru bog " that worth a visit and a walk around
