  • The ruins of the old cathedral on top of Toome hill are worth a look themselves, but the University museum adds some more value. While only a very small part of their collection is on display, each ex...  more »
  • The Observatory and the guided tour was very interesting. We were on site when the Museum opened and got a self-guided tour. We also learned a lot more about Dorpat Tartu during the tour. There are things for kids to do there. The Museum is suitable for anyone who can move right freely in stairs. The bottom floor is also suitable for visitors with limited mobility. The floor is also the most interesting

  • On the Toomemagi is the imposing ruins of a cathedral and there is still enough to get a good impression of the Church. In addition, you can safely climb the two towers and then take something to eat and drink with it because on top of you can relax have a picnic! The University has in the remains of the choir a beautiful banquet facilities built and surrounded by an intimate museum that is especially fun because of the appearance of the old University and student life. A nice surprise after climbing the domheuvel.

  • Awesome place! Must see!
  • Lovely and well laid out museum. Easy to spend at least two hours in here. Good balance between old stuff and explinatory departments. Well suited to take the kids.
  • Very interesting museum, but too big for one visit (7 floors). We spent there 3,5 hours and didn't have enough time. Perfect place to come with children, exhibitions are perfectly made, they are modern and various. Highly recommended!
  • Great museum with science and history. You can also climb to the top of the cathedral towers for a panorama of Tartu
  • Nice museum with beautiful interiors.

Where to stay in Tartu

As a university town, Tartu can get rowdy in the evenings. To ensure a quiet night's stay, look for more economical lodging outside of the center. That said, if you want to be in the thick of the nightlife, the center itself has quite a few budget accommodations catering to the youthful population. Unfortunately, this also means that those looking for luxury hotels in this area may be more hard-pressed. The most populous neighborhood in the city is Annelinn, bordering the Emajogi River, where you will find a variety of accommodations. Alternatively, Kesklinn, a smaller quarter, has plenty of mid-range hotels and budget guesthouses.
