Tartu Old City, Tartu

(4.5/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
With winding streets and a host of neoclassical buildings, Tartu Old City serves as a cultural and spiritual hub. Though much of the medieval old town was destroyed in a late 18th-century fire, you'll find the area has rejuvenated in the centuries since. Explore the many churches, squares, and corridors. Stop by the Town Hall and St. John's Church, two of the surviving medieval buildings that harken back to Tartu's highly respected position in old Estonia. After wandering for a while, stop in one of the many cafes along the streets to relax and people-watch over a cup of coffee. • Love this little town! The people, the places to eat, the scenery and the overall vibe -so positive, comforting, and warm even in winter ☺
  • Small and nice. Nothing great to offer other than sights but that for sure is enough. Compared to the Old Town of Tallinn this is more friendly and less commercial.
  • We walk on a late summer night and was very nice, to see their churches their statues and squares.
