  • Located next to the Observatory. The history of this monument does not know. Nearby is the ladder by which you can descend into the city.

  • Toomemagi is located on a hill just outside the town hall near the old Tartu Observatory. Actually, her Director in the 19 century and Struve, who created this arc. This is one of the points of the geodetic Struve arc are known-a network of 265 triangulation points, representing an implicit in the Earth stone cubes with edges of length 2 meters, stretching over 2820 km, established for the purpose of determining the parameters of the Earth, its shape and size. A total of 34, scattered mainly in the Nordic countries, from Norway. Is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

  • Struve Geodetic Arc entered on the UNESCO list relatively recently-in 2005 year. Its uniqueness is that it is the most extensive site from this list. Basil (aka Friedrich Georg) Struve — Russian-German geodesist-astronomer using huge arc 2820 km. measured the length of the arc segment terrestrial meridian. Interestingly, it's almost coincided with the modern data from satellites. ARC consisted of 258 huge triangles stretching from Hammerfest in Norway currently before village Stara nekrasivka about Ishmael. This gigantic work with 1816-1855-th years was carried out by officers of the Dorpat (Tartu) and Pulkovo Observatory, where Struve was the Director. Of the 265-three triangulation points only 34 well-preserved entered on the UNESCO list. Item in Tartu is one of the most affordable and certainly the most important, because Struve took to measure 25-meridian passing through Tartu. Monument arch is a pastiche. Actually surveyors use tags that aesthetic Ecstasy at a tourist: a pile of stones, notches on trees, thrust into the ground and strengthened.
