  • Visiting the Observatory was not accidental. Learn about arch Struve (alas, now realize that geography and history is not taught in school about that;)) and visiting for this Norwegian city of Hammerfest, we couldn't pass up Tartu and Observatory. Amazing Museum, which reverently refer to historical subjects, amazing keeper, which "passed" on the Russian language, realizing that we are "in the subject". Of course, to visit such attractions should be prepared in advance, otherwise the whole charm of this place can develop only in an abundance of telescopes of different designs, for most people a little than differ in appearance from one another. Here you understand perfectly how many prikladyvalos' efforts by Russia for the development of science in the 19th century. (Struve then is the creator and Director of the Pulkovo Observatory, in addition, he is the discoverer of binary stars!). And its arc-UNESCO monument, located simultaneously in 9 countries in Europe. By the way, the Struve arc point itself is not on the street, where there is a monument in the form of huge clothespins, and right on the floor in front of the cashier's Office in building of the Observatory. Yes, you can still go up to the roof, there is a viewing platform from which a very good view of the city. In General, if you want completeness of sensations from visiting the Observatory, prepare for meeting with history! :)

  • The Observatory of the University of Tartu (Tartu tähetorn), which is located on a hill in the Centre of Toomemagi is the only one of its kind in Estonia. Built in 1808-1810 Gg. designed by architect I.v. Krause in 2011 g. restoration work was completed, a museum was opened at the same time with a small telescope in the observation tower. Nearby is one of the points of the Geodetic Arc Struve, who was its founder. And since 2005. the Observatory itself belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage. With sites near the complex offers a very interesting panoramic view of the historical city centre.

  • University Observatory is modest in size in contrast to today's mega-projects like the Arecibo at Puerto Rico ilitol'ko entered into operation FAST radio telescope in Guizhou, China with an aperture of diameter-500 meters! And then there's the whole Hill is less. There were other times, other tasks. Director of the Observatory at the University of Dorpat was Vasily Struve, who later founded the famous Pulkovskaya Observatory.
