  • This monument's history reflects very well the history, mentality and friends of Tartu. Gustav Adolf the II was Swdwsh King, who created the University of Tartu in 1632. Monument was created to celebr...  more »
  • Flurry of activity the last quarter century to combat the legacy of occupation in Estonia did not deal with the invaders long time. Here is the Gustav-Adolf II, for example, the monument. Figure he was, without a doubt, outstanding. Spoke 5 languages and understand Russian and Polish. A prominent military leader. But in Tartu, he was cast in bronze not for this, and for founding the University of Dorpat prior to death, the Rector of which he appointed his teacher Johann Schütte, a monument which is set a little higher. The only downside was myopia, not political, and that neither is true. In a battle with troops under Ljutcenom Wallenstein in 1632, he pulled up to the positions of Catholics too close and was killed by a stray bullet.
