Botanical Garden of the University of Tartu, Tartu

4.7
#3 of 62 in Parks in Estonia
Stroll through and soak up the beauties of nature at Botanical Garden of the University of Tartu. The landscaped grounds and greenhouses were designed to recreate the natural habitats of various plants, so you can see species native to the frosty Siberian taiga not far from those you'd encounter in the tropical jungles of South America. Take a walk down the series of pathways surrounded by greenery, pause to rest on a bench, or admire the sculptures that dot the grounds. Kids can have fun at the playground and feed fish in the pond. Admission is only required for the greenhouses; visiting the outdoor areas of the garden is free. • The site seems banal at first but we walk amid the flowers and new statues, lakes, ducklings, children, medicinal plants. I will come back!

  • We hiked in the botanical garden with the kids for a few hours a couple of days, all very nicely decorated and thought, you can enjoy the peace and quiet, the people of very little, at least until we were there:) Gorgeous ponds, paths, buried in verdure, in hot weather very good to walk in the shade of the trees. Recommend to visit the Botanical Garden, he literally 300 yards from the town centre on the banks of the river.

  • A great place to relax on a hot day-there are gazebos, shade and cool. Around the beautiful and well cared for.

  • Beautiful oasis in the middle on Tartu. Most beautiful in the spring when everything is starting to bloom and go green. One of the best places just to walk and enjoy the beautiful weather. You can also have a picnic or play with children on the grass and playground area on the other side of the park.
  • Great place for walking, a beautiful garden with plenty of flowers and trees. There's a wonderful pond with fish and ducks. Inside there are palms and cactuses. There are also some turtles, they are really cute.
  • A really nice surprice which I found when walking by the river. Worth to concentrate on the tropical atmosphere.
  • Very relaxing and beautiful place, very well taken care of
  • Beautiful environment in the summer. Take pictures and enjoy the cleanest air.

Where to stay in Tartu

As a university town, Tartu can get rowdy in the evenings. To ensure a quiet night's stay, look for more economical lodging outside of the center. That said, if you want to be in the thick of the nightlife, the center itself has quite a few budget accommodations catering to the youthful population. Unfortunately, this also means that those looking for luxury hotels in this area may be more hard-pressed. The most populous neighborhood in the city is Annelinn, bordering the Emajogi River, where you will find a variety of accommodations. Alternatively, Kesklinn, a smaller quarter, has plenty of mid-range hotels and budget guesthouses.
