Viru Square, Tallinn

(4.2/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Walk through Viru Square and take a step back in time. Built in the 14th century, the gate's twin towers were once part of a complex fortification system that protected the bustling trading heart of Tallinn. Most of the walls are gone, but the towers stand as a proud monument to the city's history and mark a gateway between its modern center and the old town. In the vicinity of the gate is a great selection of cafes, restaurants, and shops where you can buy souvenirs. When flowers are in bloom, colorful stalls full of them add a special touch to the gate. The gate is a great starting point for a tour of the historic center of Tallinn on foot or by catching a romantic ride on a horse-drawn carriage. • We went to the square of the old town in modern Tallinn. The contrast is fascinating, the place is very interesting. Impressions weight!

  • The area is very beautiful during the Christmas holidays. The original lighting and small flower shops, where at this time sell very beautiful Christmas songs and wreaths. If you stand facing a Viruskim goal, the right will be a large gift shop with pleasant prices, purchases can be made tax free.

  • This is very central & close to a very modern shopping centre. Not cheap though but great for quality items & ideal to purchase something typically Estonian.
