Viru Square, Tallinn
(4.1/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Walk through Viru Square and take a step back in time. Built in the 14th century, the gate's twin towers were once part of a complex fortification system that protected the bustling trading heart of Tallinn. Most of the walls are gone, but the towers stand as a proud monument to the city's history and mark a gateway between its modern center and the old town. In the vicinity of the gate is a great selection of cafes, restaurants, and shops where you can buy souvenirs. When flowers are in bloom, colorful stalls full of them add a special touch to the gate. The gate is a great starting point for a tour of the historic center of Tallinn on foot or by catching a romantic ride on a horse-drawn carriage. • This holiday season the Christmas market is something I have to take a look. Hot drinks and snacks, lots of crafts, etc to buy. On the cobbled streets of the old city walking, but can be a little challenging.
