Viru Gates, Tallinn
(4.1/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Step right into the heart of Tallinn's urban center and access the city's historical sights from Viru Gates. The square connects all of the city's major roads and main public transportation lines, and it's a gateway to the old town. Throughout history the square was the city's main gathering place and the center of activity. Reconstruction at the beginning of the 20th century transformed the area into a transportation and shopping hub. Apart from visiting an array of stores, you can stop by a bar or restaurant for refreshment or a fine meal. Browse the surrounding area for a selection of souvenirs and be sure to visit some of the flower shops that the neighborhood is famous for. Work out when and for how long to visit Viru Gates and other Tallinn attractions using our handy Tallinn travel itinerary planner.

  • Porticos of the wall which protected the medieval city of Tallin, are very well preserved, and even looks like fall back in time at this time. Much of the wall is on top area pedestrian. Constitutes a pole of tourist attraction, with many shops selling handicrafts, flowers, etc.,

  • Glavna kapija starog grada Talina, datira iz perioda 13 veka kao i kompletne gradske zidine. Deo je barbakana, sistema odbrane grada, i prilikom moje posete bila je u fazi renoviranja.
  • "Great hotel, we often come here. Or we walk a greater distance. TOWN WALL TALLINN. THEY are 1300 CENTURY. 3 FEET THICK, and 16 meters HIGH. An awesome feeling to be in the city. I highly recommend.

  • Definitely a place to go. Receptionist are awesome. they have free coffe and basically very welcoming. Travelers will enjoy their stay in Tallinn at Viru. would do it again 10/10.
  • This was the best hostel I stayed in during a month of travel around the region. It was clean, well located, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were new and fresh, and the staff was helpful. Best of all for me is that it's not a party hostel like so many others in the city were. This is a calmer place for those who seek that out like I do. The breakfast in the morning and free tea/coffee at all hours was a great bonus. They also can sign you up for day trips to nearby national parks or tours of the city, and they're cheaper than you'd find with any of the regular touring agencies. I can't recommend them enough - stay here! I will be back if I return to Tallinn.
  • I liked the atmosphere.
  • Friendly hostel to the welcoming atmosphere in the heart of the old town. If it is practical, it means also that the rooms on the street side are noisy at night. Fortunately, earplugs are provided. The premises are clean (having to remove shoes at the entrance must help!) and we get wifi pretty well from the room. The dining room and the kitchen do not much space, which is a bit penalizing for breakfast (included, but far from being inevitable).
