Viru Gates, Tallinn

4.3
Step right into the heart of Tallinn's urban center and access the city's historical sights from Viru Gates. The square connects all of the city's major roads and main public transportation lines, and it's a gateway to the old town. Throughout history the square was the city's main gathering place and the center of activity. Reconstruction at the beginning of the 20th century transformed the area into a transportation and shopping hub. Apart from visiting an array of stores, you can stop by a bar or restaurant for refreshment or a fine meal. Browse the surrounding area for a selection of souvenirs and be sure to visit some of the flower shops that the neighborhood is famous for. • Viru gate is a fine example of architecture and a medieval town wall. I would say that this is one of the symbols of the city-they are repeatedly portrayed at all souvenirs, postcards, pictorial works. Beautifully illuminated at night in winter. Great place for photo will be visible behind the Town Hall and the road to it-Viru Street. And yet-it is an excellent meeting place!

  • Gates is one of the entrances to the old city. Very beautiful and ancient. After them at once begins the famous street Viru.

  • One of the entrances to the old town. Just inside the gates is one of the only sections of the wall you can walk. Worth the 3 euros.
  • Love this old town main gate..very charming. The old town itself takes you to a completely different world 👌👌
  • I found gifts here I couldn't find elsewhere. Basically this is a souvenir shop. I enjoyed browsing & shopping.
  • It is really an amazing place, the gate looks so old and modern at the same time. It's hard to believe that the windows are real and are not just paintings on the wall of the gate.
  • Dominika Zamara sopran: She sang in August in the Allion Baltic Festival in Tallinn. She said: Tallinn is lovely and magical city i love it. Photo in the Viru Väravad
