Viru Gates, Tallinn

(4.1/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
Step right into the heart of Tallinn's urban center and access the city's historical sights from Viru Gates. The square connects all of the city's major roads and main public transportation lines, and it's a gateway to the old town. Throughout history the square was the city's main gathering place and the center of activity. Reconstruction at the beginning of the 20th century transformed the area into a transportation and shopping hub. Apart from visiting an array of stores, you can stop by a bar or restaurant for refreshment or a fine meal. Browse the surrounding area for a selection of souvenirs and be sure to visit some of the flower shops that the neighborhood is famous for. Work out when and for how long to visit Viru Gates and other Tallinn attractions using our handy Tallinn travel itinerary planner.

  • The gates of the old city are an invitation to the past-cuzando them, the visitor will find a medieval city very well restored.

  • From this port, you have to enter, are really beautiful, then if you have half an hour, just cross the towers go right and after 100 meters on the right you will find a door that takes you along the walls, visiting and surcharge and costs 3 euros but well worth the trip to see the city from another point panoramico.non miss it

  • One thing I can tell - you have not really arrived to Tallinn until you go into old town through these gates. Historical landmark, entrance to charming old part of this great city.  more »

  • Definitely a place to go. Receptionist are awesome. they have free coffe and basically very welcoming. Travelers will enjoy their stay in Tallinn at Viru. would do it again 10/10.
  • This was the best hostel I stayed in during a month of travel around the region. It was clean, well located, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were new and fresh, and the staff was helpful. Best of all for me is that it's not a party hostel like so many others in the city were. This is a calmer place for those who seek that out like I do. The breakfast in the morning and free tea/coffee at all hours was a great bonus. They also can sign you up for day trips to nearby national parks or tours of the city, and they're cheaper than you'd find with any of the regular touring agencies. I can't recommend them enough - stay here! I will be back if I return to Tallinn.
  • I liked the atmosphere.
  • Friendly hostel to the welcoming atmosphere in the heart of the old town. If it is practical, it means also that the rooms on the street side are noisy at night. Fortunately, earplugs are provided. The premises are clean (having to remove shoes at the entrance must help!) and we get wifi pretty well from the room. The dining room and the kitchen do not much space, which is a bit penalizing for breakfast (included, but far from being inevitable).
