Town Wall, Tallinn
(4.3/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Part of Tallinn's old town World Heritage Site and replete with defensive gates, Town Wall is one of the most complete examples of this kind of structure in the world. Originally constructed in the mid-13th century, the wall has undergone several upgrades, increasing in thickness and height to its current size. Wander through the town and along the 1.85 km (1.15 mi) length of the medieval wall as you examine its 20 different towers and multiple imposing entry gates. You'll get an up-close look at the structures that helped to defend Tallinn for centuries, and you can even walk on top of the wall for 200 m (656 ft) for sweeping views of the rest of the city. Be sure to stop by the "nun's tower," Sauna tower, and Kuldjala tower, as they are open to the public. To visit Town Wall on your trip to Tallinn, use our Tallinn itinerary planner.

  • This wall was first built in 1265 as a defensive wall and then expanded in the 14th century to enclose the entire town of Olde Tallinn. When you visit Tallinn you will come across this wall often. My ...  more »
  • In the morning you can get to the town wall (her biggest preserved section) for 3 euros. Very narrow stairs, many historical facts interesting. We liked that we could again see the city on those streets on which walked from another angle. There are 2 entry and thus 2 outputs.

  • Tallinn is very beautiful. Its old town is charming, suspended from the middle ages to the present. Deserves a visit the Town Hall, during the walk in the city center
