4.3/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web
Part of Tallinn's old town World Heritage Site and replete with defensive gates, Town Wall is one of the most complete examples of this kind of structure in the world. Originally constructed in the mid-13th century, the wall has undergone several upgrades, increasing in thickness and height to its current size. Wander through the town and along the 1.85 km (1.15 mi) length of the medieval wall as you examine its 20 different towers and multiple imposing entry gates. You'll get an up-close look at the structures that helped to defend Tallinn for centuries, and you can even walk on top of the wall for 200 m (656 ft) for sweeping views of the rest of the city. Be sure to stop by the "nun's tower," Sauna tower, and Kuldjala tower, as they are open to the public. To visit Town Wall on your trip to Tallinn, use our Tallinn itinerary planner.
