Tallinn Song Festival Grounds, Tallinn
Categories: Tourist Spots, Arenas & Stadiums
The site of a key series of events in Estonia's history, Tallinn Song Festival Grounds is today one of the country's premier music venues. Visit the grounds, which host an annual namesake festival that includes almost 25,000 singers. Learn about the role that the festival played in national independence, when thousands of Estonians gathered here beginning in 1988 to sing patriotic songs protesting Soviet rule. You can climb to the top of the 42 m (138 ft) tall lighthouse next to the main stage and arch, where you'll be rewarded with views of the grounds, the city, and the nearby Gulf of Finland. Be sure to check the grounds' event schedule for information about frequent concerts, rallies, and activities.
