4.8/5 based on 8,000+ reviews on the web
Divided between a fortified upper portion and lively lower section, Tallinn Old Town, now a World Heritage Site, represents the historic heart of Estonia. Defended by imposing walls and 26 surviving watchtowers, the city is one of the best preserved in Europe. Wander the winding, cobbled streets surrounded by Hanseatic-style architecture and buildings dating from as far back as the 11th century. Climb up the steep steps to the castle-like upper town, where the city's elite once lived. You'll be rewarded with sweeping views of the city and the Gulf of Finland, accented by a multitude of church spires and towers. For the clearest panoramas, head to the viewing platforms around the edges of the walls. Make Tallinn Old Town a part of your Tallinn vacation plans using our Tallinn vacation builder.

  • Beautiful old houses and charming narrow streets. The old town is really beautiful but small, so you have to be reasonably fast. Half a day is actually enough. We had the first boot to 7:30 am to 8:30 pm back to Helsinki, that was actually too long. In the heart of the city at several restaurants. We have had good weather and lovely outdoor seated at the square. We recommend also to go to the medieval restaurant Draakon. Really medieval, even the toilet is so created. The staff also medieval dressed and within can you eat with only candlelight. Really nice

  • The oldest preserved medieval town in Europe. Small cobbled streets, great bars and lovely restaurants. A great place to visit and see. Recommended.
  • Very old and cozy streets, you can feel the history in every building, I would recommend to put some warm clothes, because there are some panoramas points where is very windy
