Museum of Photography, Tallinn

4.2
Visit Museum of Photography, a former prison that now features collections of photographs and antique cameras, as well as presentations on the history of Estonian photography. The museum hosts temporary exhibits in which you can constantly see new items from the inventory of 65,000 pieces. Learn about the development of photography from the 1840s through 1940s and find out what a darkroom looked like at the beginning of the 20th century. Look for the smallest vintage camera from Estonia--a pocket-sized Minox from 1936--and observe a large selection of photography equipment and objects. Put Museum of Photography into our Tallinn vacation maker tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Great Collection of cameras from all ages and a wonderful exhibition of how photography developed in Tallinn. The building itself is fascinating, with steep medieval staircases and lots of small cosy ...  more »
  • If you're a fan of photography, then this place is created for you. The history of photography, the exhibition carries out far into the past. A variety of exhibitions, narrow stairways create Entourage and exciting time when organizing, that comfort, realize that succeeded era and how fast our progress.

  • Little museum, which gives info about photography history in Estonia. One room shows the development of photography and famous photographers in Tallinn and Estonia. Second room has shelfs with different old cameras. Then there are rooms with different exhibitions of modern photographers. We had a guided excursion, which was very interesting, as the guide could give much more info, than it was written there. Also the guide told us a lot of interesting stuff about old cameras standing on the second floor of the museum. I would definitely recommend visiting this museum, if you are interested in photography history. But the guided tour would be more informative, than just walking around on your own.
  • Both the house and exhibitions are very interesting. Here's a picture of a hidden medieval stairway they accidentally found when renovating.
  • Basic enough museum. Only go if ypure interested in sering old cameras. I liked the gallery featuring photos of dogs! Staff were the usual grumpy standard. 2 euro entry was fine though. Skip it.
  • I just loved it! Worth a visit ,-)
  • The place is having collection related to the photographic history of Tallinn. Many early photos and some device. I love photography, but frankly speaking, a bit boring place.
