Maarjamae Palace Estonian History Museum (Maarjamae Loss), Tallinn

3.1
#27 of 43 in Museums in Tallinn
Inside a neo-Gothic palace, enclosed in iron gates with two eagle sculptures at the entrance, Maarjamae Palace Estonian History Museum (Maarjamae Loss) presents paintings, busts, and captions chronicling the origins, occupation, and liberation of Estonia. What started as a private collection of one ornamental Easter egg and a Chinese pipe became one of the most significant museums in the country. During the occupation, a large portion of the collection was destroyed. Today, you can visit comprehensive exhibits that explain Soviet and German rule through videos, presentations, and displays, as well as check out temporary art displays. To make the tour easier, reserve a guide in advance or use a free audio app for smartphones.
