KGB Museum, Tallinn

3.7
#5 of 96 in Museums in Estonia
Housed in a hotel that was once a hot spot for foreign visitors, KGB Museum presents a stark reminder of the secret police network that operated in the Soviet Union. Owned and operated by foreigners, the Hotel Viru became a target of KGB monitoring. Take a guided tour (offered several times daily in English) to see the KGB's secret operating room, which has been more or less untouched since the Soviet collapse in 1991. You'll see the workstations operatives used to spy on the hotel's guests, which connected to an extensive system of electronics wired into the building. This museum is accessible only by organized tour. Reservations are required; be sure to call in advance to arrange your visit. An experience not to be missed for lovers of history and stories of spies. This property opened in 1972 hosted until 1991 a location hidden from the 23rd floor of the KGB, the Soviet spy Central. In the top floor of the hotel there was to be nothing and it was forbidden to climb. Instead he hid the den of KGB agents 7 days a 7:24 where 12 garrisoned all potentially subversive activities for the Soviet Union. Impressively the supervisory apparatus and spying in this property, the first skyscraper built in Tallinn Finland baths designed by architects and one of the most luxurious of the old USSR 3. Wonderful trip with some particular cute like the red phone oppire the purse with the explosive red to frame those who did not comply with the strict rules of the KGB. Not to be missed ...
