Fat Margaret (Paks Margareeta), Tallinn

4.1
#11 of 43 in Museums in Tallinn
Standing as an imposing guard at one of the entrances to the old city of Tallinn, Fat Margaret (Paks Margareeta)--as it's lovingly known--represents the largest single piece of the town's surviving fortifications. Stop by the tower, which is part of the Estonian Maritime Museum, and examine its massive walls, standing 20 m (66 ft) high and measuring 5 m (16.5 ft) thick in some places. Wander the halls of the 16th-century defensive structure and you'll be treated to a chronological look at Estonia's maritime history. Be sure to climb up to the tower's roof, where you'll be rewarded with a sweeping view of the sea and the surrounding historical center. One of the first you see when you step off the ferry or arriving by bus or tram to the old town. Great and exciting building with an interesting history, which today contains a maritime museum which is well worth watching, as well as the restaurant on the roof with a breathtaking view. Must see, in Tallinn:-)

The hostel is nice, clean and in a great location. The kitchen is well fitted out and the sauna and pool is a nice added touch. Only thing is that the beds are not made when you get to a room. It's a minor thing but all the hostels I've stayed at in the Baltic had the beds made

Very nice location. We had twin with own shower. Even next to the reception, peacefull room. Traffic noises though. Downstairs joint livingroom, kitchen and sauna with small pool. Very friendly customer service. Beds/pillowns not very comfortable, but clean.

Great location, clean rooms, and friendly staff. Well-equipped kitchen and large common room. Sauna available in the morning. WiFi was spotty, and there was some noise from the street and from other guests.

Renovation is needed as soon as possible! Not the best choice, but low price and perfect location is worth stay. Free sauna every morning (not tried), large public kithen.
