Fat Margaret (Paks Margareeta), Tallinn
(4/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Standing as an imposing guard at one of the entrances to the old city of Tallinn, Fat Margaret (Paks Margareeta)--as it's lovingly known--represents the largest single piece of the town's surviving fortifications. Stop by the tower, which is part of the Estonian Maritime Museum, and examine its massive walls, standing 20 m (66 ft) high and measuring 5 m (16.5 ft) thick in some places. Wander the halls of the 16th-century defensive structure and you'll be treated to a chronological look at Estonia's maritime history. Be sure to climb up to the tower's roof, where you'll be rewarded with a sweeping view of the sea and the surrounding historical center. Plan your visit to Fat Margaret (Paks Margareeta) and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Tallinn itinerary maker.

  • Several tiers in the tower with exhibits on marine theme. Almost everything in Estonian and English. Nothing special: photos, ryndy, fishing nets, etc.

  • It is a peaceful Park, next to the wall of the old town, here can enter the old area, next to it is the sea of Estonia, on the street Museum more crowded and visited the old neighborhood. also this park is close to the cruise port.

  • Be seen first and go for the port of Tallinn old town was perfect. I thought the building was built in the 16th century the name is unique, but there remains great. But even that was once a prison seems to be now used as a Maritime Museum. I thought it is worth without admission to the Museum or even just watching the building.

  • Good hostel, close to the city center and a tram/bus stop right in front of the door. Nice common area and free sauna in the mornings. Rooms very basic, showers/restrooms could be more and cleaner.
  • Nice hostel with very helpful staff. They have what a hostel should have and it is well situated near the old town of Tallinn.
  • Good hostel
  • Very popular cheap hostel, with great location
  • Clean, cheap and quite maybe need a renovation in some parts
