Estonian History Museum - Great Guild Hall, Tallinn

#8 of 53 in Museums in Tallinn
Marvel at the medieval architecture and explore one of Tallinn's important historic sites at Estonian History Museum - Great Guild Hall. A prime example of Gothic style, the building dates back to the early 15th century--it served as the center of the city's guild of merchants and artisans. Today, the hall is fully restored and houses the Estonian History Museum. The permanent exhibit showcases the city's and country's history as well as the cultural heritage of the Estonian people. You can stroll through the chambers once frequented by Tallinn's wealthy traders, see historical artifacts, take part in many interactive educational activities, or shop for souvenirs. The admission fee includes an audio guide, and you can make a reservation ahead of time if you want a guided tour. • The Estionian History Museum makes for a nice 30'-45' outing (for most visitors). The building interior itself is pretty attractive. The museum, though, is the weirdest we've ever seen. Exhibits displays from old medieval artifacts to... (I kid you not) "the first energy saving bulb used in this museum". LOL
  • Coin exhibition alone took a hour of my attention. Not the mentioning firearms. Really exiting museum. Take 4 h and your children (borrow some if you don't have).
