Castle
Originally constructed by the knights of the Teutonic Order, Kuressaare Episcopal Castle represents one of the country's most well-preserved medieval defense structures of its kind. Pay a visit to the fortification, located on Estonia's largest island, and discover the castle's crucial past role as the administrative center of the surrounding town. Explore the grounds and defenses of the structure, including the internal courtyard, religious buildings, and attached guard tower standing 37 m (121 ft) high. The complex today houses the Saremaa Museum, which documents the ecology, history, and anthropology of the island and also is home to concert halls and exhibits. • The mighty medieval castle survived almost without alterations and novodela. Gorgeous medieval interiors with coats of arms and a very interesting historical Museum, albeit with a slightly biased illumination of the Soviet time. But the rest of the exposition, also made of boards, and the latest, perhaps most curious and diverse historical Museum in the Baltic States, and across Northern Europe.

  • If you are tired of big-city traffic and eternal vanity, this is the place for you! Not the first time clip in Kuressaare. The wonderful atmosphere of the middle ages. Be sure to visit this castle, he breathes history. Recommend!

  • I enjoyed the visit as it provides plenty of information on Saaremaa history since its formation. Same rooms had no info tag in English language. The castle itself is beautiful and very well preserved.
  • The onliest medieval castle which is in so good condition! So much information and things to see. Take your time! Ticket 5€ p/p.
  • Definitely one of the most popular tourist spots at Saaremaa. Nice historical atmosphere for a outdoor walk.
  • Absolutely beautiful on a summer day. There were a lot of stairs to climb, but the exhibitions were worth it. Not everything had been translated into English, but a lot of the things had been. The castle is in great shape. The staff were very friendly.
  • Very interesting exhibition! But the mainexhibition was only in russian/estonian...
