Kuressaare Episcopal Castle, Saaremaa

4.6
Originally constructed by the knights of the Teutonic Order, Kuressaare Episcopal Castle represents one of the country's most well-preserved medieval defense structures of its kind. Pay a visit to the fortification, located on Estonia's largest island, and discover the castle's crucial past role as the administrative center of the surrounding town. • You can see the castle for free without buying a ticket for the Museum, but can only view the outside. Nicely restored, with the views from the ramparts being especially good.  more »
  • The castle and area around is really worth to visit. But the exposition inside could be better. Also a little bit information missing which doors you could open and find something and which ones are d...  more »
  • Kuressaare Bishop's Castle is one of the few preserved from the era of late sredvekovja castles in Estonia and Latvia. And one of the largest. The castle is surrounded by earthen bastions 18 century and ditch, which in turn is surrounded on 3 sides by Park and one side goes to the sea. Very picturesque picture. On the bastions of the cannon.

  • I would like to say that we had exceptional chocolate cakes and views. Superb team. Maybe the animal exhibition was a bit outdated, but somehow it clicked with the Soviet era outputs.
  • If you have chance to be happen there at dark cloudy day than you can fully feel the late Gothic designed castle. Plus there's a rooftop cafeteria.
  • Incredibly well preserved castle! Plan at least 4 hours to roughly and quickly see all rooms it has to offer! Nice exhibitions on history of Estonia, particularly Soviet Era and ancient times.
  • Beautiful place!! Great view of the sea and walk around the castle.
  • Historical place. Interesting exhibition. Beautiful architecture!
