Rakvere Castle, Rakvere

4.5
Take in the view from the ramparts, see the horrors of torture chambers, and taste genuine medieval recipes at Rakvere Castle. The site of the castle has been used as a stronghold since ancient times; much of the current structure took shape in the 14th century during Danish rule and the rule of the knights of the Livonian Order. Throughout its history, the castle saw a lot of combat and changed hands on numerous occasions. Today, visitors can fully immerse themselves in a medieval atmosphere through reenactments, tours, and exhibits. Don't miss the chance to learn some traditional skills, such as marzipan making, blacksmithing, or sword fighting. Some activities and tours need to be booked in advance; you can do it online. • Visit the fortress was mandatory in my program travel. But after the spa and dinner we came almost to closure: (. But here at our happiness drove up the planned group of Peter and thank you to the staff and guide Elena, we have attached to it! Long time I did not have such a child. Elena stunning (I read about it in the feedback) loves his job! So many interesting things learned about daily life of medieval fortresses and not dry language of facts. The entire group was involved. Sculpted candles, did gunpowder, then torched it. Delicious mulled wine at morozce (€2.5). Animals ran among us (goats). Were still horse and donkey. Torture and the path of hell. There are costumed and presentation, but that is for next time. The cost of €9.

  • Stop in Rakvere we did with an eye to visit not only downtown, but also get to tour the fortress. Gladly spent there almost 3:00, took one of the local guides for a small sum and have a great trip with a visit to all corners of the fortress (and the passage of the ADA, and wine tasting in a wine cellar). All very interesting and authentically, many interesting points. I recommend taking a guide, rather than simply walking on a fortress-a lot of interesting facts not only about the fortress, but also you can learn about the city. In the castle all day something happens something out of a cannon firing, marching, etc. before leaving tasted pancakes at a local café-it was delicious.

  • The castle is well worth a visit for both adults and children. We've had a fun time. Dungeon laughed to tears on top of each other. The tavern was doing an excellent mulled wine. In 12-00 shot out of a cannon is that something. All the weapons in the Castle you can touch and see. Well, not a Museum, but a fairy tale.

  • Well setup medieval castle with lots of activitie. Great with kids.
  • OK, it's not a bad way to make money out of a largely destroyed castle. Put some actors in. Don't pay them enough, so they ale won't do their best too much and ask a fee. Not only an entrance fee, but also a fee for everything else you might want to do. Not the best castle in the baltics
  • Very nice castle with great experience based tours.
  • For my daughter the most beautiful chateau of the world, because you could play with real swords.
  • Amazing view with ancient history
