Take in the view from the ramparts, see the horrors of torture chambers, and taste genuine medieval recipes at Rakvere Castle. The site of the castle has been used as a stronghold since ancient times; much of the current structure took shape in the 14th century during Danish rule and the rule of the knights of the Livonian Order. Throughout its history, the castle saw a lot of combat and changed hands on numerous occasions. Today, visitors can fully immerse themselves in a medieval atmosphere through reenactments, tours, and exhibits. Don't miss the chance to learn some traditional skills, such as marzipan making, blacksmithing, or sword fighting. Some activities and tours need to be booked in advance; you can do it online. • The fortress is very old and it was shot to pieces during the 1600 's. Despite this, the fortress was used as storage for the Swedish "karoliner army", when on 13 november 1700, began the March towards Narva. This historic fortress today jousting-archery-horror Chamber with torture but also a nice restaurant in the summer. The food is served in earthenware vessels, and are of high class! During the summer, there is plenty to do at the fortress-note! admission ticket!
