Trahter Veski, Kuressaare

3.2
#4 of 7 in Historic Sites in Saaremaa
The windmill Trahter Veski represents a monument of national importance, with its typical Dutch architectural style. Built in 1899, this well-preserved structure served its function until World War II, when enemy forces cut off its blades in an effort to prevent the locals from using them to send secret signals. Standing 17 m (56 ft) tall, the brick windmill now features reconstructed blades and sits surrounded by traditional gardens. The site also houses a restaurant, where you can try homemade beer and a multitude of local dishes. The restaurant is built on more floors, each with a different but all very characteristic. If you're lucky enough to find in nice day I recommend you head on the counter on the second floor and enjoy the meal just below the old mill. The menu offers little choice and in my opinion is a bit of a mess. We tried a breaded pork tenderloin (good) and a catch of the day (not agreeable: everything from bone and with little substance). Here the dishes are flooded by dill so if you like lugging during ordering. We concluded with a cheesecake and Apple Pie: both excellent. The service was friendly and polite and slightly faster than the national average. Considered but at least 1:00 for the meal. Price for 2 main courses, 2 desserts, 1 water and cider: €31.80 + tip. The tip, which is not mandatory, but it is common practice in the country.

Really liked it. I don't know how authentic the cuisine, but really enjoyed it. Remarkable entrees, delicious soups. Registration too worthy.

Anturazhnyj Estonian beer restaurant with national cuisine. A lot of people, live music, atmosphere and fun. Weekends can be a problem with places. Minus that closes at 10:00 pm, Saturday in 23. Like most other establishments in the city.
