Suur Toll and Piret, Kuressaare

4.1
Look for the statue of Suur Toll and Piret--great heroes of Estonian mythology--carrying a boat loaded with fish. According to legend, Suur was a gentle giant who protected his people by tossing enormous rocks at enemies. Piret, his wife, always made sure his basic needs were fulfilled--the cabbage soup was on the table, the sauna was heated, and there was enough beer for the day. You can take a Suur Toll tour at one of the hotels, which involves all the giant's favorites--cabbage soup, sauna, and a lot of beer. • I'm not a connoisseur of Estonian folklore, but the monument is a curious and beautiful place. Opposite the Castle and Cove with boats and yachts. Lovely looks, a good place to take pictures and walk along the seafront promenade on a clear day.

  • This is an interesting bronze statue of two heroes of Estonian mythology. It is free to visit and it is located at a nice place of Kuressaare by the sea.  more »
  • At the beach. A must seen these two legendary giants. Full of power in these naturalist sculptures, carrying their catch of the day.. search the three fishes that had fallen off..  more »
