#1 of 8 in Things to do in Santa Ana
Head 2,381 m (7,812 ft) above sea level at Santa Ana Volcano, El Salvador’s highest volcano. Following a moderately difficult hike to the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of pristine surroundings. You'll also gaze upon a turquoise crater lake, located at the summit, and enveloped by four nested calderas and volcanic craters. Bring good hiking shoes, plenty of water, and snacks. • 2 hours to the top and 2 hours down require plenty of stretching and water breaks. The view from the top and the breeze that cools you down is worth it though. There was a guy selling cold popsicles a...  more »
  • Recommended for challenges of walking with friends, family and businesses. Very good view to the volcano of Izalco and Lake Coatepeque. Police offered security to tourists.

  • It's absolutely unusual experience to see green boiling water in a crater. Going up is no so hard. If the sky is clear, you can see another volcano and coatepeque lake on the top. Definitely worth visiting.
  • My wife and I decided to hike this volcano, it has been one of my toughest experiences but it was worth it. I would recommend this is a MUST DO when you visit El Salvador. Advise: You will need some guides from the National Park in order to hike, prepare to pay some fees from $1 for nationals until $20 for internationals.
  • Amazing hike experience for people who truly love nature and its wonders! Hike wasn't so bad, it took about 2 hours to go to the top and the view was breathtaking. You can see Izalco volcano, Cerro Verde and Coateque Lake from the top! Lovely place indeed. Entrance is not expensive and you will need a guide to go to the top. Half forest, half sand type of hike. Totally worth it!! Is a MUST GO when visiting El Salvador.
  • A good experience to climb this volcano wonderful view, the tour is in English and Spanish, in the top there are people selling paletas in a form of an Umbrella
  • Amazing view!
