Santa Ana Cathedral, Santa Ana

#3 of 10 in Things to do in Santa Ana
Sitting in the heart of Santa Ana, Santa Ana Cathedral boasts a neo-Gothic style not typical of cathedrals in the country. Built from 1906 to 1956, when the marble altar of the Virgin Mary was finally completed, the structure is almost completely comprised of red brick, except for its grand white facade, adorned with white ornate moldings. Two towers found either side of the face feature three bells. Step inside and find towering white and pink pillars and arches creating a sense of spaciousness in an already grand building. • Definitely not to be missed your visit in the center of the city. They can leverage to worship Lady Santa Ana, patron saint of the city, whose festivities in his honor held from 17 to 26 July each year. Do not forget the camera to photograph this architectural jewel.

  • The facade of the cathedral is pretty impressive for a small place like Santa Ana but inside its pretty basic but peaceful from the noise of the city.  more »

  • A beautiful example of the neogothic architecture of the begining of the 20th century of El Salvador like in Santa Tecla. The white facade makes the little details of the structure look really beautiful and helps to preserve the historic look of the cathedral. The sides of the cathedral are brick unlike the facade. And though it may look strange, it puts the structure into perspective when you see the forms and the amount of bricks that were used to make it. The back is a bit difficult to see and is also made if brick, but the bit that you can see of it is truly impressive. The interior is beautiful, the lighting is perfect. The images are very interesting to see and the wooden seats and furnishing is intricate and shows true craftsmanship. The altars of course are striking and unexplainably beautiful, so I'll leave it to the Traveller to see it for themselves. Whether your a strong catholic or completely unreligious, it's definitely worth a visit.
