National Park Cerro Verde, Santa Ana

(4.6/5 based on 75+ reviews on the web)
Showcasing some of El Salvador's most amazing volcanos, National Park Cerro Verde takes you on a dynamic nature experience along eco-trails, through lush dwarf forests, atop volcanoes, and by volcanic lakes. The national park includes two volcanos and a volcanic lake. Sitting at an altitude 2,025 m (6,670 ft), the volcano Cerro Verde invites you to walk through clouds as well as in and around its volcanic crater, following a hike through the forest. Known as the lighthouse of the Pacific, the park's second volcano, Santa Ana, rewards visitors with pristine views over a misty landscape including low-lying bush and forest. Coatepeque Lake, formed by the collapse of two volcanic cones, invites you to enjoy lunch by its picturesque tranquil shoreline. • Easyish trek to craters edge with our two kids aged 9 & 10. Fun if a little slow on the weekend when lots of locals also go up & home made delicious Ice Lollies for sale await you at the top :-)  more »
  • It is a place very nice however some areas of the Park are a bit careless, views are very good and it is not bad choice for families, but if I'm honest there isn't much to do in the Park as such at least.

  • A highlight of El Salvador for sure. Santa Ana volcano is a great hike where you can look down into the crater and its sulphurous lake. It's two hours up and not too challenging. Fun fact: these are the volcanoes that inspired the ones on the planet of the Little Prince children's book!
  • Be there at 10. Eat your lunch. 10:40 departure. Loved every minute. Simply spectacular. We will return.
  • Such an amazing place, full of landscapes, nature and one of the most amazing experiences in El Salvador, every person who visits this country should go to El Cerro verde.
  • Exelent place very beatifull ...
  • in my opinion, the single best site to visit in El Salvador. do the climb to the lake. the official tour with a security guard leaves at 11 but you can charm them into getting you a guard for an earlier trip on your own. it didn't feel unsafe but having the guard helped with finding the way as we got into the foggy top of part of the hike.
