Volcan San Salvador, San Salvador

(4.9/5 based on 75+ reviews on the web)
Take the memorable drive and scenic hike to the crater of Volcan San Salvador. Stop at the museum before the hike itself for an interesting lesson into the incredible force of nature that looms over the city. The hike gets steep at stages, but once you reach the top, you can enjoy epic views from one of the several viewing stations. Bring plenty of water, sturdy shoes, and consider taking supplies for a picnic at the top. The trip shouldn’t take more than 3 hours. For travelers who use our world travel planner, San Salvador holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Volcan San Salvador and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This is a long dormant volcano you mostly drive to; the walk to the top is easy up stairs and not difficult. But well worth visiting for the view. And for the fresh fruit grown in the volcano.  more »
  • The city of San Salvador, capital of El Salvador, has only about 25 to 30 minutes (depending on traffic) a very good place where being in touch with nature, eat and have fun, i.e. the San Salvador volcano, across a paved Street (in fact concrete, two lanes, one in each direction) which ends in the Park El Boquerón. Along the way in this volcano, there is a restaurant of different types and prices, I mainly recommend La Pampa Argentina and Las Brumas. For safety reasons it is recommended to travel to this place in daylight hours (at night basically suggested on Friday and Saturday, there is a good traffic on the road) but not too late. Also it is advised to be careful with the decrease in vehicle, maintaining a low speed through a combination of engine and brakes, to not affect the latter.

  • We did take a car tour in San Salvador, the Volcano was seen from the distance, but was amazing that a big sitty is growing so big just below volcano feet  more »
