Volcan San Salvador, San Salvador

#1 of 13 in Wildlife in El Salvador
Take the memorable drive and scenic hike to the crater of Volcan San Salvador. Stop at the museum before the hike itself for an interesting lesson into the incredible force of nature that looms over the city. The hike gets steep at stages, but once you reach the top, you can enjoy epic views from one of the several viewing stations. Bring plenty of water, sturdy shoes, and consider taking supplies for a picnic at the top. The trip shouldn’t take more than 3 hours. • This is a Volcano that erupted in 1917 and is 1893 meters above sea level, it is quite a long drive of twists and turns to get there, pack plenty of water and get ready for a hike up steep stairs, there are some rest stops along the way, and if you circle around the come you will go past a radio station, do not approach as they have military guards inside, and further down is a closed down restaurant, it gets very windy up here at this altitude, if you and your party are up for it you can keep going down around a narrow trail to the eye of the Volcano, though by the time you have reached the top and snapped pictures you are ready to go back down and take a look inside the visitors room that gives you all of the history (see photos) and has a video with interviews on constant loop en espanol. If you are seeing the sites of El Salvador and are a lover of nature, this is definitely worth the trip.
  • Absolutely beautiful. Excellent weather, wonderful people and amazing place. It has been an awesome experience! A little but, a beautiful country
  • This is another a must go place to visit when in El Salvador 🇸🇻 is right in the city. Beautiful place a great walk. If not foggy you get to see the crater. We weren’t that lucky to see all the way on the volcano. But got to see in the evening after a coffee all San Salvador city lights is beautiful.
  • That are at nice places I recommend
  • Loved it. Very informational with a great view once you reach the top of the stairs.
