  • Walked over here from the Crowne Plaza (about 45 mins-1 hour) to have a look. Typical Salvadoran souvenirs including backpacks and bags, coin purses, ceramics, coffee mugs, wood carvings, masks, figur...  more »
  • If you are looking for ethnic knick knacks like those that invade our local markets; the inevitable refrigerator magnets; colored bracelets and leather belts; and t-shirts "someone who loves me has been in El Salvador and bought me this", you have come to the right place. If you're looking for production from real local artisans and something original, is best avoided.

  • I loved the experience. Very good crafts, precious and varied shops for great prices. Worth a go!

  • Souvenirs stores. You must bargain the prices and you might get up to 30 percent off. Try your skill and get the fair price.
  • Pros: easy to get to, plenty of choices of handcrafted souvenirs, and not too expensive. Have on mind that you can get a better price from a different store if you are willing to bargain. Cons: a few stores try to sell souvenirs that aren't really ours, just ask or try to find that little "made in China" tag if you are feeling suspicious.
  • Souvenirs at a secure place. Good prices. Ask for the naughty eggs
  • Good the people is really nice, and the place is safety clean and nice.
  • Good stuff as always! Protest blocking the road so we hit some traffic.

Where to stay in San Salvador

San Salvador has a reputation as one of the most dangerous cities in the world, so it's important to think carefully about which neighborhood to stay in. Most hotels have good security measures and are located in safe neighborhoods, such as Colonia San Benito, Colonia Altamira, Colonia Escalon, and Colonia San Francisco. In these tree-lined suburbs, you can choose from a range of hostels and bed and breakfasts. Areas such as Zacamil, Ciudad Zelgado, and Mejicanos are considered unsafe and should be avoided.
