Iglesia El Rosario, San Salvador

4.7
#1 of 14 in Historic Sites in El Salvador
Pay a visit to Iglesia El Rosario, a modern church and landmark of San Salvador. Built in 1971 by notable local sculptor Ruben Martinez, the church has a simple concrete and red-brick exterior that belies its striking interior. Wander inside to see an arching ceiling of stained glass, filtering natural light into a rainbow of colors. Whether you're religious or not, you can appreciate the artistic beauty of the church, which features an eclectic metal and stone rendition of the twelve stages of the cross. Padre Delgado, known as the leader of the Salvadoran independence movement, is buried here. • Outside like an old railway-station but if you enter you can see how beautiful the temple!! Worth to see it and make some photo of the colorful windows.  more »
  • After the roof goes in an arc and have Windows that glow in multiple colors. Here is the rough concrete materials used, and iron. The father of he who constructed the Church was the scrap dealer. A nice "Via the Defense" in the back of the Church-

  • The most interesting church I've ever been to. Amazing feel to it. Getting there and getting out was a bit difficult but it was well worth it. One of the highlights of our vacation
  • A really cool, unlike church-church. The artful displays about Christ's crucifixion events are unique and great. The highlight ofcourse is there stained glass display throughout. Thoroughly enjoyed the place.
  • Be careful if you ride there with Uber, it's not an Uber area so you can't order Uber back !
  • 簡單樸素的建材,通風良好,光影效果十足。牆壁的毛胚被彩色玻璃的色彩照映成美麗的畫面,充分運用了光線的特性,別被它的樸素外表所騙,一進教堂,靈性盈溢。
  • Church of avant-garde style according to the architect who designed it, the Church has much history, and there was where he built the first cathedral of San Salvador. Worth a visit and learn a little more about the story.

Where to stay in San Salvador

San Salvador has a reputation as one of the most dangerous cities in the world, so it's important to think carefully about which neighborhood to stay in. Most hotels have good security measures and are located in safe neighborhoods, such as Colonia San Benito, Colonia Altamira, Colonia Escalon, and Colonia San Francisco. In these tree-lined suburbs, you can choose from a range of hostels and bed and breakfasts. Areas such as Zacamil, Ciudad Zelgado, and Mejicanos are considered unsafe and should be avoided.
