Centro Monsenor Romero, San Salvador

4.9
#3 of 12 in Museums in El Salvador
Gain a deeper understanding of the violent recent history of El Salvador at Centro Monsenor Romero, where a group of priests was brutally murdered. Not for the faint of heart, the exhibition is unflinching in its photographic portrayal of the violence. Set in the grounds of the university, the eye-opening exhibition gives you an appreciation of the terrible nature of oppression and war. As the information on display is primarily in Spanish, a guide is recommended for those who don't know the language. Where to stay in San Salvador

San Salvador has a reputation as one of the most dangerous cities in the world, so it's important to think carefully about which neighborhood to stay in. Most hotels have good security measures and are located in safe neighborhoods, such as Colonia San Benito, Colonia Altamira, Colonia Escalon, and Colonia San Francisco. In these tree-lined suburbs, you can choose from a range of hostels and bed and breakfasts. Areas such as Zacamil, Ciudad Zelgado, and Mejicanos are considered unsafe and should be avoided.
