Colossi of Memnon, Luxor

3.9
Monument · Ruin
Gaze up at Colossi of Memnon, two huge stone structures depicting the pharaoh Amenhotep III. Originally standing at the entrance of the pharaoh's mortuary temple (now destroyed), the quartzite sandstone colossi were constructed in the 14th century BCE. They depict the pharaoh in a seated position, with his wife and mother at his feet, and the Nile god Hapy on side panels. Standing 21 m (69 ft) tall, the pair of monumental statues preside over the west bank of the Nile, becoming the source of much fascination in classical times when an earthquake shattered one of the colossi and it began to emit a mysterious sound--thought by several Roman emperors to bring good luck if you hear it. • This is really more of a photo opportunity than anything but definitely still a must do when visiting Luxor. We love our photos here  more »
  • In comparison to the other landmarks I visit, this was underwhelming. We stopped for a quick visit and photos and that was good enough  more »
  • Impressive but so many other things more impressive to see on the West bank. Obviously the damage they suffered from earthquakes also factors into play.  more »

  • Fabulous experience in Egypt. We were going to self guide but changed our minds and hired a local guide to take us through. Very glad we did. We came away with a greater understanding of the history of this place. To get the most out of it we suggest that you do the same.
  • Great place, one has to see! Great team of archaeologists working there. Marvelous results and findings.
  • Rent a bike, take your time, and you will find out more. It's not far at all. After you get off the ferry, ignore brokers approach you. Go exit until reach the small intersection. Right On your right hand side, there's a small juice shop. They charge 30LE for a day. That is the best price I get.
  • To end a day of visit, to feel that pharaons were everywhere around... giants that pop up on your way, must see even if many pieces around are missing. Also, it's free.
  • Grandpa's Garage Studio 7 suggests to get over here and get healthy. Our ground, water and air hold all the keys to sound (free) energy. Weighing over 1000 tons these are one of the wonders of our world. Ancient technologies are far superior and advanced over our modern day devices on the ground. Electromagnet resonant fields are the only way to levitate and move stones. These are advanced quantum sound sciences we can control with our intent. We are simply are never taught the truth of our ground. Pours may have also been made from Human DNA to make these incredibly hard stones. Only DNA testing will show our truth. Be happy, think good thoughts and stay together when exploring. See what we can find out to be true. Technology is all surrounding us, when we open our eyes and look. Water holds memory, power and our intent is imprinted into all creation.
