Khan Al-Khalili, Cairo

#1 of 116 in Shopping in Cairo
Soak up the atmosphere and pick out a souvenir at Khan Al-Khalili, a historic souk built in the 14th century. With a maze-like layout and artfully arranged shop fronts and stalls, the market caters largely to international tourists these days. Some areas, such as the gold and spice-selling districts, remain seemingly unchanged, with countless merchants all located close to one another, creating a striking visual effect and lending itself well to photography. • I actually consider myself pretty well travelled.. however don’t remember ever feeling sooo disturbed by the male attention. Ruined the experience today.  more »
  • The place is more than great and there are many antique shops and restaurants and cafés located in al-Hussein area is an excellent place but warning of some sellers and exploiting tourists to increase prices

  • A magical place, most famous over the world and respectful increasing year by year, that all refer to this place deeply into the heart of the ancient neighborhood in the Egyptian capital -- Khan El-Khalili. If you intend enjoying with or looking up a vital period in the Egyptian history, then you need to take a tour to that place, a walk through its streets and smallest roads. You will see ancient mosques and historical buildings. Never you can resist the magic of the small shops, coffee shops and restaurants which are existent thorough into the area.
  • Bazaars were a little bit different than what I thought.. There were so many people that walking peacefully around & watching was impossible. Also this place needs several hours of time to wonder it through because its so huge and oh yes so full of life! Will be going again, but with different schedule & attitude 👍
  • Large market (souk) offering all kind of stuff, of which many, if not most, are geared toward tourists. Most shops are selling the same thing, so after walking around for a bit you will see everything repeating itself. Nevertheless, it is worth spending a couple of hours there walking through the various alley and have a drink / snacks at one of the many coffee shops. Be prepared to bargain if you want to buy something.
  • A great market for cheap gifts for family and friends. Shop keepers are open to negotiations. A great experience for any tourist to experience a day in the life at the market. The atmosphere is very friendly and exciting. Many things are available arranging from clothing, material, bags, jewellery etc. Replicas of artifacts may also be found.
  • Totally loved the vibes. Essential Cairo for you. Sellers are polite and welcoming, well most. Some may want to start fighting if you don't buy anything. Overall, must visit place in Cairo.
