Hike through the dense green jungle at Podocarpus National Park to get up close and personal with Mother Nature's diversity. The national reserve supports a wide range of wildlife and vegetation: 4,000 species of plants, 68 species of mammals, 560 species of birds, and over 1,200 different insects have been identified. The jungle's most populous residents include frogs, lizards, snakes, birds, bears, and jaguars. Your adventure will take you past dramatic scenery including waterfalls, rivers, and panoramic views of surrounding mountain ranges. Drive or take a taxi to the entrance, then walk 15-20 minutes to the administrative center, where you'll learn about the different trails you can take through the park.   • We visited Podocarpus from Zamora and from Yangana and it is an incredibly beautiful place. Trails are not very marked but are obvious. You can camp, bathe in a waterfall and swim in a pristine river.  more »
