Rancho Primicias, Santa Cruz

4.9
Admire the gentle giants of the Galapagos at Rancho Primicias. Explore the ranch lush with fruit trees and populated by cattle, goats, and giant tortoises. The tortoises are calm and relaxed and will not be frightened if you walk up near them, so the site provides the chance for some great photo ops. Observe the creatures as they roam around the ranch munching on greens and playing in the water. There is also a souvenir shop and a cafe restaurant (known for fresh passion fruit juice). • We paid in this age group $ 6 for two cokes 3dl when the same bottle is $ 1 in downtown Darwin, a shame. In addition, the waitresses were very friendly when they were told that we didn't pay for their visit. Finally, she did not allow us to cross their property to go to laguna del chato makes us make 7 km more than expected... To see these giant turtles alone and virtually free: from puerto Ayora take the bus which is more or less opposite the pichincha Bank, $ 1 up to santa rosa. Then walk 45 minutes in the direction of the group named "reserva tortugas rancho firsts" on maps.me, we saw at least 30 wild turtles on the way so why pay the ranch at the end to see what we can for free, the galapagos are already pretty expensive.

  • We can get there with a taxi and come back by bike on the bike path from the main road. The two ranch are one next to the other. Don't make the mistake as we drive up the coast by bike and down to go to the neighbor. There is a fence between them. The first is free and beautiful. The second for $ 5 with free coffee. There are tunnels of lava on two ranches.

Where to stay in Puerto Ayora

As a popular jumping-off point for Galapagos visitors, Puerto Ayora receives loads of tourists, and therefore features many of the accommodation options you might expect from a major destination. Though there are types of lodging to suit all kinds of budgets, prices in general tend to be higher in Puerto Ayora than in mainland Ecuador. The more upscale hotels catering to wealthier visitors lie along the waterfront in the vicinity of Avenida Charles Darwin, and offer excellent access to the sea, port, and restaurant scene. Consider renting out a private apartment room or staying in a smaller-scale hotel a few blocks back from the ocean in order to cut down on costs, as the city itself is easily walkable.
