#9 of 12 in Parks in Santa Cruz
Following a short hike at Los Gemelos, you'll have the opportunity to gaze upon the beauty of two ancient lava craters. The trail, which also has a side path, continues for up to 723 m (2,372 ft). It takes you through lush green vegetation, which fills the craters today. Watch for an abundance of tortoises crawling in the craters. Because the path crosses a variety of terrain, be sure to wear good shoes. Add Los Gemelos and other attractions to your Puerto Ayora trip itinerary using our Puerto Ayora trip planner .

  • It's two craters still active volcanoes. Is located on the road to Puerto Ayora to the airport. The tour is initially parking via a trail that goes from one side of the road to the other. The vegetation is lush and interesting.

  • We went to Gemelos, the twins (like Gemini), during our highland tour from Puerto Ayora where our ship was docked. The two collapsed volcanos, called caldera, were on either side of the main north-sou...  more »
  • Tied trip in to the Lava Tunnel, El Garapaterro, The Magic Swing, and El Chato. The taxi driver was our guide for the day. The trip was reasonable for a personal driver.  more »

  • Beautiful hike around seclia trees and amazing view on the two craters
  • It was good excuse to be in the highlands. But the craters themselves weren't much to see. It was a pleasant walk around hearing all the bird songs & spotting finches. But it was best seeing them taking a taxi up with our bikes & then biking down with a stop at El Chato tortoise reserve.
  • Beautiful view and friendly owls at this special spot in isla Santa Cruz.
  • I came here by bike and I got to say I was wrecked. If you don't cycle regularly maybe get bus up here and cycle down. The trail is just off the road and fairly short. The views are pretty decent.
  • Fascinating area, great to spend a bit of time at, particular when it's foggy.

Where to stay in Puerto Ayora

As a popular jumping-off point for Galapagos visitors, Puerto Ayora receives loads of tourists, and therefore features many of the accommodation options you might expect from a major destination. Though there are types of lodging to suit all kinds of budgets, prices in general tend to be higher in Puerto Ayora than in mainland Ecuador. The more upscale hotels catering to wealthier visitors lie along the waterfront in the vicinity of Avenida Charles Darwin, and offer excellent access to the sea, port, and restaurant scene. Consider renting out a private apartment room or staying in a smaller-scale hotel a few blocks back from the ocean in order to cut down on costs, as the city itself is easily walkable.
