Lagoon El Junco, San Cristobal

(3.7/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
In the middle of Isla de San Cristobal sits Lagoon El Junco, a large fresh water lagoon perched 700 m (2297 ft) above sea level. The lagoon has a diameter of 270 m (886 ft), reaches depths of 6 m (20 ft) and rainwater remains its only source of rehydration. Thick endemic vegetation surrounds the lake, lush and deep green in color. Birds typically dip by and use the freshwater to wash off salt from the ocean. The trek to the lake offers gorgeous views of thick mist consuming rolling green hills. Expect to trek in wet weather conditions as rain and mud are not strangers to this area. Don't forget to bring insect repellent as some creatures can leaves some nasty bites. • Visited this site as part of the Highland tour organised by taxi. It is a short hike up to the summit and if taking time to admire the splendid views, the walk around the crater takes around an hour. ...  more »
  • Fabulous, the road that must go for get to the place is long and tired, mostly by that is climbing many staircases, that while are perfectly maintained are steps small and steep, but get to the top and see the landscape, makes that all the effort worth it penalty

  • We had one day with a cloud which limited visibility to only a couple of metres, the atmosphere very humid and drizzle to us what we imnidio see the lagoon, but feel a part as high island is a great experience. It is worth going and I hope that you run with better luck than us with climate.
