In the middle of Isla de San Cristobal sits Lagoon El Junco, a large fresh water lagoon perched 700 m (2297 ft) above sea level. The lagoon has a diameter of 270 m (886 ft), reaches depths of 6 m (20 ft) and rainwater remains its only source of rehydration. Thick endemic vegetation surrounds the lake, lush and deep green in color. Birds typically dip by and use the freshwater to wash off salt from the ocean. The trek to the lake offers gorgeous views of thick mist consuming rolling green hills. Expect to trek in wet weather conditions as rain and mud are not strangers to this area. Don't forget to bring insect repellent as some creatures can leaves some nasty bites. • very nice place, breathe fresh air, difficult access, long staircase. Choose a sunny, cloudless day to visit.

  • In contrast to the coastal area, more rugged, the lagoon is nestled between green hills, with beautiful panoramic views, watching the 4 windmills wind... comes after an ascent along a path with medium difficulty, salvageable if done calmly and enjoying the scenery.

  • The upper part of the island at 650 meters above sea level is almost always cloudy and lloviznosa, the weather is always recommended to go with sneakers and a light sweater... If you're lucky and you clear will observe the lagoon which is located inside the crater of the volcano... impressive flora of the place as you ascend to the crater... good trail and can be reached on foot, refreshing bicycle or vehicle.
