Mitad del Mundo, San Antonio de Pichincha
(3.9/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
Stand between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at Mitad del Mundo, marked by a compass-like monument erected to show the exact location of the Equator. Stand with one foot on either side of the line for a unique photo opportunity, and get your passport stamped to say you've visited the Earth's midpoint. Here's the thing, though--it's not the real Equator, as the park's designers missed it by about 250 m (820 ft). • Half the world is quite far from the center of Quito. Going by taxi is very expensive, so it is advisable to leave a day early and leave in collective bus which takes about hour and a half. This serves to know other sectors of Quito which are further away. The visit takes approximately 3 hours, looking at the construction that was just in the place of the middle of the world, how did, how it was discovered that this was the middle of the world, etc. You can enter the building and from above, look at the beautiful hills that surround this area. Also under that construction there is a museum that explains the indigenous peoples of Ecuador and interactive experiments to see what is the difference between one and the other half of the world. There are many shops with handicraft and should visit the chocolate Museum where you can learn the history of it and how it is produced. There same you can taste and buy an exquisite chocolate.

  • Wonderful experience of standing at latitude 0 °, 00', 00 ", on the line of the Ecuador, and also know the typical huts of indigenous, how to make chocolate, and wonderful devices with which they explain about gravity, and other things. It is worth to go.
