Mitad Del Mundo, San Antonio de Pichincha

#5 of 354 in Things to do in Quito
Landmark · Tourist Spot
Stand between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at Mitad Del Mundo, marked by a compass-like monument erected to show the exact location of the Equator. Stand with one foot on either side of the line for a unique photo opportunity, and get your passport stamped to say you've visited the Earth's midpoint. Here's the thing, though--it's not the real Equator, as the park's designers missed it by about 250 m (820 ft). Put Mitad Del Mundo at the forefront of your travel plans using our Quito trip app.

  • The area is a "city" with large collections of restaurants, stores, and a church as well as museum building and the monument. Most of the shops and restaurants were closed due to COVID. The...  more »
  • What an absolute cool spot, to be standing in "The Center of the World"! My wife and I had such a good time, cheering cocktails, while standing on different Hemispheres! The views from the top of the....  more »
  • Good place to visit and learn new things. You can learn about cocoa beans, the history of the train in Ecuador, science experiments and even see llamas. It takes about 4 hours to visit everything.  more »

  • The middle of the world monument with 0°0'0": zero degrees, zero minutes and zero seconds is unmistakable. You will need to pay $5 to get in. Inside the monument is a history, science and indigenous education, until you get to the top and see the views on all sides: North, West, South, and East. There is a patch for Llamas, don't know why but people are crazy about the Llamas. If you ask me, the best parts are the chocolate and alpaca wool from Ecuador. There are plenty of souvenir shops around. The very first thing you notice when entering the park is the well manicured park with statues and the sounds of birds.
  • Very educational, many.things to see and do. Lots of picture opportunities. Could have easily spent 4 to.6 hours here. Took the grey line tours. Was inexpensive and.easy.
  • Beautiful, clean and colorful place. Interesting space to walk. Although for the price it would be nice that had more entertainment. That could bring more people and also restaurants would be full. The weather is so wonderful they could do more with this cultural space.
  • Very cool iconic place in the world. $5 entry fee (Jan 2020). The main monument has a cool museum and on the ground floor they will stamp your passport with the official Mitad del Mundo seal! Lots of the exhibits were under maintenance.
  • Amazing place. 5$ entrance fee. The monument it's a tower itself where you can go inside and take the elevator to the very top for a nice view. Tip: bring your passport with you, They'll give you an unique stamp.
