Sangay National Park is a national park located in the Morona Santiago, Chimborazo and Tungurahua provinces of Ecuador. The park contains two active volcanoes, one extinct volcano El Altar, and ecosystems ranging from tropical rainforests to glaciers. The park has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. In 1992, it was added to the List of World Heritage in Danger due to illegal poaching, extensive grazing, unplanned road construction and encroachment of the park's perimeter. It was removed from the UNESCO list of endangered sites in 2005.The National Park is an important refuge for rare species of the Andes, like mountain tapirs and spectacled bears. Especially for the mountain tapir, the park is one of the most important strongholds. Typical species of the alpine and subalpine areas are mountain tapirs, pumas and Andean foxes. In the forests below live spectacled bears, giant otters, jaguars, ocelots, margays, Brazilian tapirs, white-tailed deer, little red brocket deer and Northern Pudus. About 300-400 bird species inhabit the Park. File:19991102 Tung large.jpg|Eruption of the Tungurahua in 1999 File:Sangay peak.jpg|Areal view of Sangay File:Sangay2.jpg|Sangay

  • This is another part of the landscape of Ecuador that we were lucky enough to see as a part of a small group with our own guide. He was a lover of flora and fauna so great experience
  • Riobamba Macas moves by mezzanine. Scattered village surrounded by lagoons and beautiful mountains. Staying at km 38 'Ranchito la Posada' very, very basic but very authentic. Do horse back riding among Lakes with Mr. Angel, a man of extreme sympathy... And the landscape... It may be the best in Ecuador...
