  • The Ozogoche lakes are a beautiful natural area where you have a nice walk. We have the walk led by one of the villagers. In return there was a delicious trout meal ready for us.

  • The ozogoche lakes are a collection of 45 Lakes or lakes in Sangay National Park, 20 km south of Guamote and 36 km east of the town of Palmira. Magical destination that offers peace, tranquility, fresh air, silence and a first hand contact with the nature. Furthermore, at night, travelers can experience a beautiful feeling, as if they were closer to the stars. The lakes are deep, cold and have a striking dark blue color and in the surrounding area there is a large area for camping, excursions, bird watching and mountain biking. Elevations as the altitude sickness, Sasquin and others who form the mountainous system of the Achipungo can be visited. One of the most popular and well known of the Ozogoche is bird watching, especially since mid-September there is an event that often leave perplexed and bewildered to those who come to the area. The migration of 'plovers' (cuvivi in Quechua) is a species of birds that call much attention for its singular beauty, which come to the Lakes to take their own lives, in a natural Holocaust known as the tribute. Hundreds of these animals are released in a systematic way and without prior notice to the icy waters of the Lakes. Yet is has failed to explain why it occurs. However, there are those who believe that it is because the cuvivies are fatigued and affected by heat, so when he saw the water fall nose-dive in search of something to remove them thirst, but low temperature kills them instantly. This place offers the opportunity to go hiking, fishing, share experiences with indigenous communities, photography and adventure. The ozogoche Lakes name comes from the jíbaro ushu: Wolverine willing to eat meat and juchi: be alone; the etymology is clear from an Indian legend, which says, birds known as cuvivi, are thrown into the waters to die and a suicide tribute to the sacred Lakes.

  • They are beautiful and the scenery for getting there is worth seeing. The road is in very good condition. There is nothing more than the Lakes, there are no restrooms or any place to eat
