Altar Mountain Reviews
Maravillosa caminata de acensó así la Laguna Amarilla en el volcán El Altar. Con mediana dificultad de acensó. more »Wonderful walk of acensó thus the yellow Lake in the volcano El Altar. With medium difficulty of acensó.
I went to the Altar Volcano, through Releche route to the yellow lake on December 2017. I found the road horrible, about 8 hours just to get to the shelter (I'm not trekking expert, just a young guy i... more »

In the century-old hacienda is gave us a mule and its carrier (for this service previously canceled $90 + VAT) to bring our equipment to spend the night in the refuge CAPAC URCU, whose accommodation costs $15 + VAT per person. This slight difficulty (3 on a scale of 5) walk is complicated because of the 9.5 km, at least 80% of the path is muddy, the use of rubber boots is mandatory, luckily the days before our ascent was not rained otherwise would have been tortuous and more delay to reach the refuge. As a precaution, we have been "water ponchos" which we do not use them. While we walked more than 3,000 meters above sea level, we did it in Jersey, protected from the powerful UV rays with cream anti solar, hat and glasses El Refugio Cápac Urcu is located in the Valley Collante. I was very surprised the contrast of the pleasant complex of casitas that make up this place of rest, in its construction prevails brick and wood and is very well suited to isolate the Colossus ALTAR cold wind. The dining room and lounge on the ground floor is likewise well wide, your kitchen (for its use were charged $10 + VAT), but guess which some accidentally, not had a single phosphorus to ignite gas cooker and few candles medium consume, which on the night we spent there , they ended up melting (not be with that is there will be lighting the New Zealand tourist who arrived after us), should also have a well equipped first aid kit - in case of need. The bedrooms have beds spacious berths, and the hard mattress was softened with the "sleeping bag" indispensable for sleeping at proper temperature. An advantage is to have in the bedroom bath and shower, but it did not have toilet paper. At 4 in the afternoon on the same day, will continue - with my guide Cristian Erazo - hike this time with trekking footwear, for after 2.1 km to reach atop the Mirador (4.241 masl) of LAGUNA yellow, which was verduzca to the ne by effect of the sunset a previously we stumbled upon cattle and bulls whose "Buffalo" resonated among the huge walls of the majestic ALTAR, so called because each of their peaks were baptized as: Los Frailes, Canon, Tabernacle, nun girl, big nun and the mythical: Bishop (5.319 masl). In addition to few meters they grazed bottlenose, jumping scary rabbits, frogs, and a multitude of insects dazzled with our light in the darkness of the Páramo, in which we take in several tranches to walk in the light of the sky completely Star and Crescent - whose brightness is reflected in the imposing mountain snow... so after "mash mud" for hours came the reward of the ecstasy of this show, that very few have the opportunity to admire it "in situ" when you get to the refuge last 19 h 30 a huge wolf of paramo whose coat of reddish tones, white, grey and black stripes with crossed swift within walking distance from us. The next day, from 5 h 20 began to "clarify" foreshadowing that we would have a day full of Sun - as indeed it did, after breakfast we started our return to 7 h 30, see completely cleared the distance the imposing volcano Chimborazo completed this experience, punctuated by streams and small waterfalls which filled it in a little more than 3 hours.
